Bootleg Tuesday - October 20th

It's another day and another set of amazingly ugly bootleg toys. If you're an X-Men fan, I probably wouldn't keep reading, because these take the "mutant" thing a step or ten too far. Courtesy of The Undiscovered Playthings bootleg action figure blog, check out these X-Monsters in the latest edition of:

I think the first indication that these abominations are bootleg toys is the packaging. If you look at the bubbles the figures are in, you'll notice how crispy and warped they've become, with abysmally thin glue holding them on. These look like they were pulled out of someone's sock drawer before being placed on the shelf. Of course, they're also placed on the card crooked and the price tags are randomly thrown on. You don't even have to see how ugly the toys are (and boy are they hideous) to know that these things should be completely avoided.

So, what the hell is going on with Cyclops there? I don't know if this mold came from an actual Cyclops figure, but even then, what were they thinking? There are virtually no costume elements from Cyclops present on that toy, aside from his visor and the color scheme which sort of matches up. He looks more like a combination of three other toys: Trap-Jaw (with the metallic arm and vice at the end), movie Snake Eyes (look closely, and you'll see the mask-lips (I didn't even think about the irony with the names: Cyclops vs. Snake Eyes)), and of course the old DCUC Wave 3 Robin (check out that giant pimp hand!). I don't even want to talk about Wolverine there. Do you remember him ever having bird talons for feet? And I always thought it was Sabertooth who had the big claw-laden fingers. I guess Wolverine gets the best of both worlds (he's Hannah Montanna?) in the bootleg realm, bear hands, and attachable black claws. Ferocious.

There are a lot more toys in this line apparently, but I had to show these two particular facial expressions. The best sculptors in the world couldn't make a face with an expression this powerful and distict, even with years of time and patience. Go bootleggers! Shard there is very obviously quite surprised (she probably just saw Cyclops), while Wolverine is in that dumbfoundedly-happy state that can only be achieved by finding DCUC Wave 10. The crazy eyes being the most prominent indicator, of course.

These aren't even the worst toys in this set, and you can find the rest over at The Undiscovered Playthings bootleg action figure blog!
