The day has finally come. Martian Manhunter has officially been announced as an upcoming DC Universe Classics figure, and I can at long last sleep in peace tonight. Mattel announced all of Wave 15 today, along with releasing a couple pictures to whet your appetite.
Included in the wave are Martian Manhunter ( with Martian head/"weapon hand" variant), Starman (classic and modern), Raven, OMAC (classic), Golden Pharaoh (Superpowers), Jemm, Sinestro Corps Batman, and a Collect & Connect Validus. You can find this information straight from Mattel right here, and you can read some of my brief thoughts after the jump.
As I already mentioned, I've been impatiently waiting for a Martian Manhunter figure ever since I was first wowed by Demon when Wave 1 first landed, and it's a relief to finally see him announced. I'm not at all disappointed with the way he looks, and I'm glad they stuck to his classic costume, because it's just about perfect in my eyes. I will be glad when we see some bigger images so that I can form a firmer opinion.
I never ever thought I'd see a Jemm figure in all my
days, but it's a hugely welcome surprise as he may very well be the
most obscure character they've made yet. We knew Raven was coming, and she does look pretty nifty in that pose, but it brings up questions about whether she or her cape is going to be stuck that way or what. I certainly hope not. Golden Pharaoh and OMAC both look pretty goofy, but I always end up liking the goofy characters more than I expect to. Both Starman figures look good, although I can't believe they went with the Jack Knight Starman due to all the necessary new tooling. I was expecting a modern JSA Starman instead, though I'm not disappointed by the decision.
Sinestro Corps Batman looks pretty amazing. I don't have much use for him in a display, since he's kind of an offshoot that graced maybe two pages in comics history (that I know of). I would have personally preferred a more permanent and unique Sinestro Corps member, but it's a fun nod nonetheless. It's hard to say much about Validus based on that microscopic picture. I think I'll like him. Only time will tell for certain.
