I decided to split the galleries for DC Direct's comic book stuff and DC Direct's video game inspired stuff, which is released with the "DC Unlimited" labeling. So enjoy these photos of the DC Unlimited figures on display at the 2010 Chicaco Comic & Entertainment Expo, which are some of the best sculpted figures around today.
I'll start off with all the new World of Warcraft figures, since that's a line I actually collect now and then when I can find them cheapr than retail price. If you're looking for dynamically posed medieval style figures with absolute top-notch sculpting, then this is the line for you. But action figure fan beware, because there seems to be less and less articulation in these figures, so they're really almost a line of statues. Either way, look all the pretty toys!
Up next are more figures from a medieval style video game, but this time it's Bioware's Dragon Age: Origins. I managed to make time to finish the game and all the downloadable content (and am currently trudging through the expansion pack), so I'm stoked to see figures of some of the more recognizable characters from the game. Below are Duncan, a generic Deadspaw, Loghain, and Morrigan. These are some of the only characters who maintain a consistent look throughout the game (as player characters can switch out armor at any given point), so I'm curious to see if DC Direct will move on to other less iconic characters/costumes like Alistair or Oghren.
To finish off the pictures are figures from a few different licenses, like Mass Effect, Twisted Metal, and God of War.
I like that DC Direct has branched out and started to make figures that are inspired by outside media. They do a great job at what they do, which is to say make dynamically posed figures without much articulation. I would prefer they take a NECA approach for their video game figures, meaning more articulation and playability, but any figures for licenses like Dragon Age are better than no figures at all, so I can't complain much. Hopefully we will see them take steps in the direction of actual action figures, although I don't think it's likely.
