Articulated Discussion GI Joe #1 In Comic Shops Today!

GI Joe #1 In Comic Shops Today!

If you stopped by your local comic shop today, you may have noticed a copy or two of GI Joe #1 sitting on the stands.

See my thoughts on the book after the jump,

This issue is the first step in IDW's new plan for GI Joe comics. It's written by the ever talented Chuck Dixon of DC fame and drawn by a name I don't know, Robert Atkins. If you haven't ever read GI Joe before, but would like to start, then now is this time. This new line drops all previous continuity and starts from scratch. As a matter of fact, in this initial issue, the Joes are just starting to contemplate who "Cobra" might be.

I gave it a quick read, and while it wasn't stunning, I'm definitely going to give this book a chance. The writing seemed forced at times and the art was a little heavy handed; I'm hoping they will grow into the book and I'm sure they will. All the same, it was nice to see some recognizable characters and know that I was in on the ground floor before things took off. It's not the best comic I've ever read and it's far from the worst too. It's a good opening issue that managed to keep me around for a while at least.

You can read what IDW has to say about the issue and the whole line in general here.
