Playing Dress Up - Super Powers

What could be better to dress up as than a superhero? They already dress up in costume, so it should be a pretty easy transition. That's why taking inspiration from the Classic Super Powers action figure line is an obvious choice. Read on to see some potential costumes based on DC Comics characters in the final edition of:

If you want to look naturally scary in a Super Powers based costume, there really aren't a lot of choices. Sure guys like Darkseid and Kalibak are scary when you know their story as any comics fan does, but I don't think too many kids are going to run screaming from a gray guy in a blue skirt and blue knee-highs. The only two fellows who might inspire that intense instinctual fear are Parademon and Steppenwolf. And I say "might", because even these two are pretty tame and colorful anyway. At least one has claws, and the other an ax.

If you're built like a Greek god, there are three other costumes to consider. For those with the buff pecs and biceps, it's all about Hawkman in his shirtless glory. Body hair may or may not be a plus on that one, depending on your view of Hawkman. For spindlier folks in the crowd, the boy wonder is another way to show some skin. Just be careful there aren't any Batmen at your party, there's no telling what you could instigate. Those Batman and Robin rumors are pretty well spread by now. And then of course, for those of you who want to bare it all (or almost all anyway), there's Martian Manhunter. He is also an option for those with enormous eyebrows (or green skin (or alien physiology (or telepathic abilities))).

And then for the very select group out there that happens to moonlight as a door-to-door vacuum salesman, you've got a plethora of options. Desaad seems to have some sort of dirt devil just strapped to his chest, so pull out one of your vacuums and a bath robe and you're all set there. Mr. Freeze is a little more complex, he might take two or three vacuums (with all the hoses present in his getup). And then there is Tyr, who just requires a tiny handi-vac strapped to your hand and voila!

If none of the above costumes work, you've got one more choice. It's probably not the sexiest costume around, and it definitely won't win over any Batgirls, but it might be all that looks appropriate on your frame. The Penguin.

He's what I'm going as.
