Here's another DC Universe Classics Two pack review, this time including two Green Lanterns, Abin Sur and Hal Jordan. These two figures should be cheap on Mattel because they almost identical, use very simple bodies, and are basically very slightly repainted rereleases from Wave 3. Quality control issues keep these guys from shining as otherwise solid figures, but if you're desperate for a slightly more classic version of Hal or want to increase your GL army (with a continuity dead Abin Sur) then you might find this two pack worth it.

Sculpt
To begin with Abin Sur, this sculpt is just as simple as they come. He uses the basic slim DCUC body type with pretty much no modification. He has the Green Lantern hand with a power ring sculpted in, which is a nice touch, but that's as detailed as you'll see this figure get. His face is also rather pedestrian as a basic bald head with a stern, almost angry expression. I'm pretty surprised they made a unique sculpt here and assumed they might just use Series 1 Red Tornado's head. Hal Jordan is in exactly the same boat as Abin Sur with the basic male body with a unique head sculpt. His head is identical to the Series 3 Hal Jordan, but it's still a good mold with a nice heroic expression, good hair detail, and a mask sculpted in instead of just painted.
Abin Sur Sculpt Score: 6 / 10 - Really boring sculpt, basic head sculpt with nice expression. No details to mention to pull score up.
Hal Jordan Sculpt Score: 7 / 10 - Hal's nice head sculpt brought over from Series 3 still works despite the lack of details and uniqueness in the figure's sculpt.
Paint
Both of these characters suffer from quality control issues in their paint. Starting with Abin Sur, he has a little more than normal slop, most of it concentrated around the crotch area. It's disracting with pretty big green streak on the black areas. Other than that he has pretty crisp color change lines as well as nice colors and a well painted head with eye details. Hal really suffers from QC problems with a giant glob of green paint/glue on his left shoulder. It looks terrible. I thought I'd be able to get it off a little easier, but it's on there for good short of sanding it out and repainting him. I know not everyone's figure will have this problem, but it's something to look out for. Hal also has slop problems but manages some pretty good paint in the face area with nice applications on his mask, which I know is a common defect area.
Abin Sur Paint Score: 7 / 10 - Some very sloppy areas, generally nice tight paint lines and good detail in the face. Just seems hard to mess up as little painting as he requires.
Hal Jordan Paint Score: 6 / 10 - Generally good applications but he's ruined by a huge glob of something ugly. Great mask and hair paint and colors.
Articulation
As I've come to expect from the DCUC line, both of these characters have the same standard articulation model as everyone else. This is a good thing with a lot of flexibility and poseability from a multitude of points. Quality control rears its ugly head again to lower these figures' scores. Both of Abin Sur's elbow joints are totally frozen and I can't get either to budge without fear of breaking. Hal's right arm is the same way. Abin Sur also has gummy feeling hips which seem to be pretty common in DCUC these days, and they feel like they could shear off at any moment. The rest of their joints are actually perfectly tight and hold poses very well. Since both characters are so basic, their range of motion is full too. There's not a lot of sculpt for the articulation to interfere with, but the Four Horseman are great at making articulation and sculpt work together and these figures have that balance.
Abin Sur Articulation Score: 6 / 10 - Non sculpt interfering articulation, lots of different points that feel good, two badly locked elbows really limit poses. Gummy hips are scary.
Hal Jordan Articulation Score: 8 / 10 - Only one locked elbow! Rest of the joints are great and look good with sculpt.
Fun
Green Lanterns are characters that are immensely fun to some (me) and kind of boring to others. Even my bias for Green Lanterns really doesn't make these two figures much fun. They're practically identical and that's no fun. They're not well designed particularly, or monstrous, or big, or even dynamically costumed. They do have one accessory between them, which seems pretty lame. I guess having them fight over the single power battery could be fun (see comic) but I think two would've been feasible. They don't have any action features or play value beyond their articulation, which is the only thing keeping these scores afloat. I mean, aren't clear-green plastic constructs a pretty obvious accessory at this point?
Abin Sur Fun Score: 5 / 10 - Nothing particularly fun about the character or the design. A nobody character in the scheme of things. No action features. Good articulation never hurts.
Hal Jordan Fun Score: 6 / 10 -Hal Jordan is a character people recognize, but without accessories or play features, there's not much to love. Articulation helps here too.
Value
At $22, this two pack seems a little more expensive than some of the others. Both of these figures are a little basic and practically the same thing. $11 for a normal sized figure with a totally reused body and nothing unique except one of the two head sculpts is a little high for me. They do come with one power battery, but I'd think at this price point, some other accessories would be reasonable. Considering the lack of collect and connect pieces and the quality control problems with the two figures I've gotten, I just can't consider them worth the money.
Abin Sur Value Score: 5 / 10 - Average sized figure, feels pretty durable, no accessories or C&C pieces. For better quality control I'd pay more, but it's not here.
Hal JordanValue Score: 5 / 10 - Big and durable figure, no accessories and a frozen joint pull score down.

Abin Sur's Overall Score - 58 / 100 - This is a Fair Toy
Abin Sur can't overcome his boring nature or the poor value even though his sculpt and paint aren't bad.
Hal Jordan's Overall Score - 64 / 100 - This is an Okay Toy
Hal Jordan has a strong sculpt and articulation but he's just not that much fun or valuable for the price.
Green Lantern Figure Pack Overall Score - 61 / 100 - This is an Okay Toy
These two Green Lanterns barely make the grade. They seem overpriced and poorly made compared to other entries in the DC Universe Classics line. Character choice may have been the biggest issue with other possible Green Lantern favorites like Tomar Re or Katma Tui not making the cut in place of a repaint.
