Articulated Discussion Review - Revoltech - Danboard

Review - Revoltech - Danboard

[TAO's Note: Updatedude's here to take a super quick look (with a super short intro) at the Revoltech Danboard figure, which may very well be the cutest toy of all time. ]

Name: Danboard
Line: Revoltech
Manufacturer: Kaiyodo
Released: November 2007
Accessories: Stand to Enjoy Everything, Severed head of girl, Revol-Joint (Neck).

Danboard is a one off character from the comic Yotsuba&! Made entirely of cardboard and electronics, the Danboard robot runs on the power of MONEY.

Perfecto-mundo sculpt. The plastic actually feels like cardboard and even the skirt flaps... flap. Not as articulation points, but they were simply designed to. The color the plastic is cast in is perfect.

Sculpt Score: 10 / 10

Paint is okay. Danboard has no paint, but the severed head's applied well. Nothing fancy, just your standard collector's fare. There are 7-11 and Amazon.jp variants of Danboard, but obviously, this is neither of those.

Paint Score: 6 / 10

Danboard is articulated despite the use of Revol-Joints. The design obviously limits things alot, but at the same time, it's the design that rocks and Danboard is as articulated as can be reasonably expected. For that reason, I'm scoring this high.

Articulation Score: 9 / 10

...Self explanatory I think. For god's sake, Danboard has light up eyes! Also, if you can afford like 5 Danboards, you can create truly epic combinations. But even one Danboard's enough.

Fun Score: 10 / 10

Danboard is worth it whatever the price. I overpaid for mine when it came out but I ain't got no regrets. Not when the thing sold out on the first day. If you can find Danbo for non-astronomical prices, pick 'em up.

Value Score: 10 / 10

  95 / 100 - This is a Wonderful Toy

Am I being too generous? Too easy on Danboard? Sure. But you know what, in all fairness, Danboard deserves it. I honestly can't find anything to knock against Danboard. The sculpt is too simple? But it's comic accurate, and wouldn't work if it was hyper detailed. Too few points of articulation? Erm, this is a cardboard robot, it moves everywhere it can conceivably do so. Having stuff like elbows and knees would add zero benefit for the character.

It's characters like Danboard that make Revoltech a line worth keeping around.
