Toy Haul - A Higher Class (Transformers Week Edition)

After seeing Revenge of the Fallen on opening night, I couldn't resist today's purchase. It wasn't the best movie I've ever seen, but after a few key fight scenes, I just couldn't go without this fellow. See who made the jump from the toy aisle to the display shelf in today's special Transformers Week edition of:

I rarely buy action figures priced above $20, and often regret it when I do. Though I have a feeling it will be different this time. I don't particularly like the design of this Revenge of the Fallen Leader Class Optimus Prime (priced at a chunky $45), and the action featues aren't calling my name, but something about him just feels right.

I think the thing that drove me to this purchase was simply the notion of posing Optimus here alongside the Generation 1 inspired Masterpiece Optimus Prime. To see a "changing of the guard" so to speak, representing the passage of time and evolution of the toy industry, along with the cinmatic industry, if not society as a whole. Sacrificing simplicty in design in favor of complexity instead; that's the change I see between these two characters. Or maybe he's just a big shiny piece of plastic, and he caught my extremely short attention span just long enough to warrant a swipe of the card.

Either way, expect a full review of both this figure, and the Mastepiece Optimus Prime coming tomorrow to finish off Transformers Week with a bang.
